Often you find there are two main sounds in Dubstep, you have the grittier purely bass driven drops from the likes of Borgore and Flux Pavillion, or you have the more organic; and in my opinion; deeper sounds from the likes of Skream. I enjoy the occasional track from the grittier stuff but Outside The Box proves how the more organic sound is just simply unbeatable.

For me the album shows a lot of high points, other than the two tracks mentioned at the start, the track with La Roux – Finally has all the ambiance and feeling of In For The Kill but somehow in a completely new sound. La Roux seems like a bit of a dick, but her vocals are so natural over a Skream production you forget about that and just enjoy the music. How Real (feat. Freckles) has Crystal Castle esc vocals over a crossover 80’s rave track which you’d be forgiven for not looking forward to, but somehow Skream makes it feel right. A track that stands out as having any relation to Skreams first LP is Wibbler acting almost as a statement to say ‘I can still effortlessly put out these types of tracks’.

The album isn’t perfect however. 8 Bit Baby feat. Murs just doesn’t do it for me in the slightest, I don’t particularly enjoy the US rappers jumping on dubstep, the production of the track is tight, but put simply Murs’ vocals are just plain annoying. The only other gripe I have with the album is that I wish Song For Lenny was the final track on the album, changing places with The Epic Last Song both great tracks, but the orchestrated feel of Song For Lenny would have made it a perfect fitting to end the album on.

Outside The Box fuses together a mix of Electro, Dub, Rave and Drum’n'Bass in that trademark Skream way whilst still offering something to people a little scared to interact with Dubstep. In Layman’s terms the album is exactly what it says on the tin.

Alive Till I’m Dead is one of those albums where you can tell every ounce of effort and talent which Professor Green has, has been put in to every single track. There’s no filler, no tracks to make up the numbers, which coming from an ‘urban’ UK artist is a breath of fresh air.

Far from being an album aimed purely at the Pop market (which you’d be forgiven for assuming on the basis of his first two singles) Alive Till I’m Dead is suited to everyone, including his fans and supporters from The Jump Off days. Tracks such as Do For You offer a brutally honest insight into Greens life before the commercial success came about. Despite a previous hate for love songs Green does include one on the album, Where Do We Go; a track about his relationship with his former partner, typically coming from Green it isn’t a generic love song; there is actually a deep emotional subject on display where he openly discusses the breakdown of the relationship and loss of an unborn child.

There’s no doubt at times the album has its deep moments, but at the same time the album has some pretty funny parts too, his track with Example;- Monster, is pretty much a song about how he would like to shag Pixie Lott, an interesting tactic to get a date to say the least.

The album finishes up on Goodnight, a heavily orchestrated track which is pretty much the perfect way to finish what is evidently days, weeks, months  and years of hard work from one of the UK’s best hip-hop/urban/whatever you want to call it; artists.
