Thai Matic’s mixtape Let Me Land is here; it’s free and it’s also pretty damn good! Originally scheduled for release a few weeks ago it was put back whilst final touches were made to get the mix up to perfection. I haven’t previously heard much from Thai Matic but having seen DJ Semtex give the mix a shout out and being a good friend of Kevin Lanre from The Whorington I thought it was something that definitely needed checking out.

Professor Green – Alive ‘Till I’m Dead [Album Review]

When the preview of Professor Greens album Alive Till I’m Dead went live on iTunes I was left a bit disappointed, apart from one main track; Jungle feat. Maverick Sabre, nothing really jumped out at me. Passing judgment on 30 second clips could have been the biggest mistake I could have made about the album though, and thankfully I still went ahead and got the full album on release this morning as undoubtedly this is one of the strongest albums of the year.

Alive Till I’m Dead is one of those albums where you can tell every ounce of effort and talent which Professor Green has, has been put in to every single track. There’s no filler, no tracks to make up the numbers, which coming from an ‘urban’ UK artist is a breath of fresh air.

Far from being an album aimed purely at the Pop market (which you’d be forgiven for assuming on the basis of his first two singles) Alive Till I’m Dead is suited to everyone, including his fans and supporters from The Jump Off days. Tracks such as Do For You offer a brutally honest insight into Greens life before the commercial success came about. Despite a previous hate for love songs Green does include one on the album, Where Do We Go; a track about his relationship with his former partner, typically coming from Green it isn’t a generic love song; there is actually a deep emotional subject on display where he openly discusses the breakdown of the relationship and loss of an unborn child.

There’s no doubt at times the album has its deep moments, but at the same time the album has some pretty funny parts too, his track with Example;- Monster, is pretty much a song about how he would like to shag Pixie Lott, an interesting tactic to get a date to say the least.

The album finishes up on Goodnight, a heavily orchestrated track which is pretty much the perfect way to finish what is evidently days, weeks, months and years of hard work from one of the UK’s best hip-hop/urban/whatever you want to call it; artists.

[New Single] Devlin – Brainwashed (Official Video)

Released on the 8th August, Devlin’s new single Brainwashed features pretty much what you would expect from Dagenhams finest. Lyrically as usual Devlin delivers something a little deeper than your typical grime artist and the carefully sung hook and chorus adds the ‘catchy’ element to the track. A good taster for the soon to be released album Bud, Sweat and Beers but probably not commercial enough to get any chart success. With a little radio play though; who knows it could break the top 20.

Kanye West – Power

Thank god he has finally put down that terrible autotune. I know a lot of people enjoyed it, and in particular loved 808’s and Heartbreaks but for me it was the worst part of his otherwise solid musical career. Anyway, that was then and this is now and finally Kanye is back to doing what he does best, rapping. His new track Power is a welcome return to form and the artwork for the single is brilliant.

So Chipmunk got very arrogant and unnecessarily rude to Lowkey on Twitter the other day for no reason (he’s since deleted the tweets and blocked Lowkey) and Lowkey didn’t take to kindly to Chip diddly chips attitude, within 24hours we had the following:

“I did not enjoy doing that, and I don’t want people to keep cussing the guy, but when you talk down to other people about material possessions and look down on others for having less than you materially, as if that is some measurement of talent, don’t expect me to say nothing. Humility doesn’t cost you anything. Humble yourself.” – Lowkey.

What do you think? Can Chipmunk respond, or should he for once accept he was in the wrong and take the track on the chin?

Professor Green’s F64 just dropped on SB.TV and it is FIRE!! Glad to see a real fresh 64 bars coming through and with artists like Devlin, Sway and Ghetts all lining up to release theirs the F64 season isn’t over yet!

Surprised I’ve only just got wind of this. Japanese hip-hop producer and DJ; Jun Seba (Nujabes) was involved in a fatal car accident at the end of February at the age of just 36. Beats were serious, rest in peace.
