Reset IV Recap

Last Friday and Saturday saw streetwear sale event The Reset open it’s doors for the fourth time at Nike 1948, Shoreditch. Friday night saw a big turn-out with supporters reaching to enjoy the music, clothing and free beer, it was good vibes all the way up till 10 when the police decided to lock it off for some lame reason, apologies to anyone who arrived late and couldn’t get in. Big up to everyone who passed through and showed support, whether you copped from our stall or from someone elses it’s all love! (More love to those who copped from us though!)

Shouts to all the brands involved; Trapstar, Benjart, Silent London, Ugly Kids Clubs, Second Son, Star Player, G.R.I.N.D, PXL, All Caps and anyone else who was involved who I’ve forgotten.

The latest track from M.I.A is taken from the 3rd album MAYA. Combining a catchy beat with a dig at the pop industry the video offers a reflection of the main theme for the track ‘You want me to be somebody who I’m really not’.

Bashy – Fantasy (Official Video)

Yes! Exactly the setting I pictured when I first heard this track. Wasn’t expecting to see ex Eastenders star Preeya Kalidas starring in it though! Shouts to Bashy on pulling off this video, flew to Mexico, got a respected actress involved and got some beautiful models (no London groupies) all independently!

Make sure you show love back and download the track on it’s release on September 19th, would love to see this break the top 40.

Skream – Outside The Box (Review)

Previously I had only heard two tracks from the album track-list, months ago I heard Fields of Emotion on a BBC late night radio show and immediately ripped it and had it steadily climb up the most played tracklist on my iTunes library. More recently thanks to the visually enchanting video; Listening To The Records On My Wall followed suit. So to say I was excited for the release of this album would be an understatement.

Often you find there are two main sounds in Dubstep, you have the grittier purely bass driven drops from the likes of Borgore and Flux Pavillion, or you have the more organic; and in my opinion; deeper sounds from the likes of Skream. I enjoy the occasional track from the grittier stuff but Outside The Box proves how the more organic sound is just simply unbeatable.

For me the album shows a lot of high points, other than the two tracks mentioned at the start, the track with La Roux – Finally has all the ambiance and feeling of In For The Kill but somehow in a completely new sound. La Roux seems like a bit of a dick, but her vocals are so natural over a Skream production you forget about that and just enjoy the music. How Real (feat. Freckles) has Crystal Castle esc vocals over a crossover 80′s rave track which you’d be forgiven for not looking forward to, but somehow Skream makes it feel right. A track that stands out as having any relation to Skreams first LP is Wibbler acting almost as a statement to say ‘I can still effortlessly put out these types of tracks’.

The album isn’t perfect however. 8 Bit Baby feat. Murs just doesn’t do it for me in the slightest, I don’t particularly enjoy the US rappers jumping on dubstep, the production of the track is tight, but put simply Murs’ vocals are just plain annoying. The only other gripe I have with the album is that I wish Song For Lenny was the final track on the album, changing places with The Epic Last Song both great tracks, but the orchestrated feel of Song For Lenny would have made it a perfect fitting to end the album on.

Outside The Box fuses together a mix of Electro, Dub, Rave and Drum’n'Bass in that trademark Skream way whilst still offering something to people a little scared to interact with Dubstep. In Layman’s terms the album is exactly what it says on the tin.

Mystro – Around My Way (Free Hip Hop!)

Taking a break from finishing the final bits to the first of our Autumn/Winter drops there’s nothing more refreshing than some seriously fresh Hip Hop. The concept for the video is pretty unique, taking hip-hop to the streets Mystro aims to show the general public that hip-hop can still be fun! It’s not all bling, guns and hoes!

Katy B – Louder (Official Video)

This girl don’t stop! Following up from the smash Katy On A Mission Katy B is back straight away with another banger, this time with Zinc on the buttons. Louder takes a more chilled out approach but the result is the same, another great track. Check out the video below.

Kanye West – Power (Official Video)

In a typical these are my rules kind of way Kanye only fancied revealing the first 1:42 of the video for Power, but what a 1 minutes 42 seconds it was. The video depicts Kanye as a god like essence amongst angelic and demonic chaos. The video is sure to have the bandwagon of illumanti devli worshipper conspiracy theorists rife, but hey it’s all down to marketing and boy has Mr. West done well.
